If you liked the freedom you had in making decisions and designing your character, KCD is great. I think it's appropriate to say that KCD is Skyrim with a lot more meat on its bones - with a smaller world that's also a lot more polished and focused than that of TES games. I think the plot is done much better in Witcher 3 (I have been a longtime fan since the release of Witcher 1 so maybe there are some confusing parts that I didn't notice) but the quests in both games are extremely well done. It takes some learning but it does the first-person hack-and-slash so much better than TES does it.īoth games are very, very strong in terms of writing. You start off as a nobody, but you can learn so many different skills and combat is actually really fun. KCD is a very good game in terms of building your character from the ground up.

I'm not a stickler for combat in RPGs (I really play them for the plot) but the combat in Witcher 3 is pretty basic if you just take the time to read your skills and plan a build out.

Well-written quests and story missions with deeper romance optionsĪRPG-like combat, not very nuanced unless playing on hardest difficultiesīeautiful environments and character models, best "stand and talk" model I've seen so far.įor my money, Witcher 3 has better writing and more polish overall than KC:D, but both games are pretty good.Īs much as I love the Witcher series, KCD I think has it beat in combat. Well-written quests and story missions with limited romance options Stat-based gameplay (you can learn to read!) If you have a decent PC that can run both, then:īeautiful environments, rough character models Are you on PC or console? If you're on console, then Witcher 3 no contest because as much as I would like to recommend KC:D, there's still a significant amount of stuttering, graphic drop-ins, and gamebreaking bugs.
